Christine Lashley

"Chasing light in every stroke, I let the oil speak what words cannot."

Christine Lashley is an American artist recognized for her colorful, dramatic work in oil and watercolor. Her paintings are rooted in direct observation, often beginning outdoors where rapidly changing light and weather demand swift, intuitive responses. This plein air process sharpens her technical skills and fuels a deeper creative exploration, later refined in the studio into works that synthesize place, memory, and emotion.

Memory plays a central role in Lashley’s art—serving as a bridge between the fleeting beauty of a moment and its lasting emotional resonance. Her style blends realism with abstract elements, aiming to capture both the seen and the felt.

Lashley has been immersed in the arts since childhood, influenced early on by her mother and grandmother’s sculptural work. Her creative path has included time in Europe’s high fashion industry, followed by work in graphic design and murals. She began painting professionally in watercolor, transitioning to oils in 2009 to expand the expressive possibilities of light and color.

Her award-winning work is held in museum and corporate collections, and she has taught painting workshops and classes worldwide for over 30 years. Lashley holds a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and studied at the Sorbonne and Parsons in Paris, supplementing her education with workshops from leading contemporary artists.
